Looking from the outside, from America, it appears that Universal Credit was created because the government doesn’t want to provide people with enough money to live on because people become comfortable and entitled. By making people suffer a little I think it is believed people will try harder to find work. Why else would they make people already depending on benefits, living from one deposit to the next, wait a whole 5 weeks without any money at all or take an advance that they have to pay back which just keeps them in cycle of not having enough. It seems the government doesn’t want them to have enough.
